Getting alone and personal with your Heavenly Father

As I begin my time with God in prayer the way Jesus taught me when He said, “Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven: I pray to my Father in Heaven for He is the one who created me and has made a way for me to have a restored relationship with Him through Jesus’ death and resurrection.

May your name be kept holy: I am to glorify and honor God in everything I do.

May your Kingdom come soon: I am to anticipate the return of Jesus Christ and work continuously to share the Good News.

May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven: Thinking about all I know about Heaven, I am to pray for things to be the same here as in Heaven.

Give us today the food we need: These are my needs: On a separate sheet of paper or in a notebook list your need and the requests of others.

And forgive us our sins: I ask the Father to show me where I have sinned and ask for His forgiveness.

As we have forgiven those who sin against us: I do a fearless and complete search of any resentments or hard feelings I may be holding toward others and let that resentment and hard feeling go in forgiveness.

And don’t let us yield to temptation: MY strength comes from the power of God through the working of the Holy Spirit in my life. I now ask God to lead me away from things that will tempt me, and show me the ways of escape.

But rescue us from the evil one (Matthew 6:9-13, New Living Translation): The devil wants nothing more that to trick me into choosing to sin, but God can protect me if I ask.
